Is the transformer an AC or DC device?

Is the transformer an AC or DC device?

A transformer is a passive device, in which have two winding on its core. The winding are commonly known as low or high voltage winding.

Is transformer is an AC or DC device?

In general, there are two term also used that is primary and secondary winding. The winding which taking supply from the source are known as primary winding. And, the winding which delivered the supply to the secondary winding are known as secondary winding.

It is define as "it is a electrical device which transfer current from primary to secondary winding through the magnetic path without changing it's frequency. It is known as transformer".

In other hand, the device which transfer current and voltage to one circuit to another without changing it's frequency and power it's known as transformer.

Principal of transformer:-

A transformer is work on the principal of mutual induction. In simple words,  the transfer of magnetic field from primary side to secondary side this process is known as mutual induction. Due this magnetic field an emf induced in the secondary coil, when it's close then induced current will flow through the secondary side.

Is transformer is an AC or DC device?

The condition for emf induced in the secondary winding of transformer is, it's required conductor, magnetic field and third most important relative motion between them.

First two condition are following allows but relative motion means in static device is change in magnetic field line which is only possible in AC current only. Hence, Transformer is an AC current device.

Is transformer works on ac or dc?

No, transformer can't work on DC current bacuse in DC current there is no frequency and no variation of time on current and voltage so, it's can't operate in transformer to do work.

Why DC current is not used to operate transformer?

Because, in DC current there is no time changing term in the current, so no varing magnetic field produce through the current. Thus, due to no varing magnetic field produce due to DC current, there is no relative motion between core and the magnetic field. Hence, no emf produce in the secondary winding if transformer.
Thus, a transformer neither be operated on DC supply.

what happens when dc supplyis given to transformer?

When we supply DC current to primary side of the transformer it's produce magnetic it's liked with the second winding but it can't produce emf in it, because it's doesn't have any variation of magnetic field. If it's has high current then is insulation melt and winding are shoted to each other. It's is completely distortion of winding of transformer.

Transformer output AC or DC?

A transformer is normal a static device which transfer current form primary to secondary winding. Thus, here we got our answer that when we apply AC current in the primary winding then we get AC current through the output or in secondary winding. And, when we apply DC current to transformer then can't be operated on DC supply.

What kind of device is a transformer?

A transformer is a passive device because it's firstly taking power through the supply then it's provide through the secondary side.

A transformer is also a statics device because its doesn't having any rotating system in it.

A transformer is only device which have maximum efficiency as compared to any other devices like motor, generator, etc.
